This occupation is found in several sector environments, varying in size including small, medium and large employers. An Aesthetic practitioner specialising in skin rejuvenation can be employed within the non-surgical cosmetic sector including beauty industry, aesthetic industry and wellbeing and health industries, in a variety of salons, spas, aesthetic, medi-spa environments and clinics. Aesthetic practitioners will enter this occupation from a variety of professional backgrounds including beauty therapy, massage therapy, healthcare practitioners who will have a sound knowledge of anatomy and physiology.
The broad purpose of the occupation is to provide a range of elected skin rejuvenation procedures for clients or medically referred skin rejuvenation aesthetic procedures. These procedures include superficial and medium grade skin peels, micro needling, mesotherapy, light-based therapies, and combination intraepidermal procedures.
Aesthetic practitioners will understand and comply with legal and regulatory requirements and professional standards within their aesthetic practice. Aesthetic Practitioners will maintain a current and valid First Aid at Work qualification or equivalent and be able to carry out the functions of Basic Life Support (BLS), infection control and complication management. They will complete consultations including client welfare assessments, complete skin evaluation and analysis to design procedure plans, record and maintain client records. They will design prepare and implement skin rejuvenation procedures plans. They will also evaluate procedure outcomes and provide advice on post procedure maintenance, products and future procedures.
The aesthetic practitioner will continue to expand their knowledge and understanding of anatomy, physiology and pathologies in relation to skin health and skin rejuvenation, client welfare assessment behind client choice, referral and expectation management.
In their daily work, an employee in this occupation interacts with a number of internal colleagues, managers and a variety of external individuals such as clients and external professional networks.
An employee in this occupation will be responsible for independent working, providing correct skin rejuvenation procedures in a private, clean, secure, and safe environment.
An English regulated level 3 qualification in Beauty Therapy, level 3 apprenticeship in Advanced beauty therapy or Wellbeing Holistic Therapist apprenticeship or professional statutory regulated body equivalent regulated qualification.

Apprentices without level 2 English and maths will need to achieve this level prior to taking the End-Point Assessment. For those with an education, health and care plan or a legacy statement, the apprenticeship’s English and maths minimum requirement is Entry Level 3. A British Sign Language (BSL) qualification is an alternative to the English qualification for those whose primary language is BSL.
