In January 2024 the Department of Education announced it would separate plans for a combined T Level in Hair and Beauty.
Government will explore introducing a T Level which focuses on the beauty sector, with the expectation that this could be introduced after 2025.
For the hair sector, government has concluded that the best route is for learners to progress into their industry through completion of an existing level 2 or level 3 apprenticeship, or a level 2 classroom-based qualification. Therefore development of a T Level for the hairdressing and barbering sector will not continue.
T Levels remain government’s flagship technical qualification for 16-19 year olds, with tens of thousands of students studying or having studied T Levels, and they will form the backbone of the Advanced British Standard.
